K5000S: It Lives!

Previous owners cracked the LCD and spilled red bull inside a lot of momentary switches. The new LCD came in today and looks great! After some diligent work it is producing wicked sounds once again, can't wait to start programming this beauty. See Original post for some dis-assembly pics.

Hi G-Storm

I realise I'm commenting on a very old post but I've finally bought a Kawai K5000s which seems to be in very good condition... I plan to do a few mods to it (eg. swap out the floppy drive for a USB drive, upgrade the OS to 4.04) so I was looking for websites that have repaired/worked on these synths and I found your webpage.

I was just wondering if you knew or remember if there is an internal battery backup inside the k5000s? If there is, I want to replace it once I open it up as I don't think its ever been done... I've checked the service manual but can't find any reference to a battery... I've read that the interior is a bit of a nightmare and that parts/boards are very fragile so I just wanted to do a bit of research before I started any surgery...

Any hints/tips/help would be greatly appreciated.... If you get this email, can you please reply to dazperoni@hotmail.com? Thanks very much :-)
